Introduction


Through a single quarter-long project, I had the opportunity to deepen my research skills, develop my mark and symbol design abilities, and advance my thinking for scalable, actionable design systems that advance the brand.

 

The Challenge

Colnago is a manufacturer of high-end road bikes founded by Ernesto Colnago in Cambiago, Italy. The company has a rich heritage for making bicycles using high quality steel frames, and has been regarded as one of the builders of the world’s best custom road race frames. Colnago became known as one of the more creative cycling manufacturers, responsible for innovations in design and experimentation with new and diverse materials. 

 

THE APPROACH

We worked in small teams to conduct research and create the brand platform, which we used as the foundation for our rebrand. We honed in on five core personality traits, including: dignity, brilliance, authenticity, precision, and superiority. My approach to create a visual system to capture Colnago's conviction of innovation while remaining true to the rich heritage of Italian cycling.
